Care Bears: The Original Series Collection

Not what I expected, but not horrible
*Note: I have not yet watched the set and am only reviewing the packaging of this set. I may add to my review once the discs have been watched.

First off, I will say that when I see "Original Series Collection," I think "Complete Series." I must stop assuming things. Second of all, when I see "Original" I think of the DIC Care Bears... they appear nowhere I can see on this set.

Basically what you get are the first 12 DVDs released of the Nelvana series (Adventures in Care-a-Lot, Kingdom of Caring, Gift of Caring, Magical Adventures, Festival of Fun, Season of Caring, Hearts at Sea, Friends Forever, Share a Scare, and Fitness Fun) on double-sided discs, which means the last 2 DVDs that complete the Nelvana series, Give Thanks and King of the Moon, are missing. That in itself is a disappointment. Why not just do the complete Nelvana series. You also get the movie Care Bears Nutcracker. I feel they should have just omitted the Nutcracker movie and instead give us...

Not the original I remembered
As a care bear show I still think this is better than the current remakes but I was disappointed because I had no idea that there were two 1980s versions. This is not the DIC version with professor coldheart that I grew up with. I wasn't too upset just disappointed however watching it with my daughter the part I don't care for is so many of the episodes are just cartoon care bear remakes of popular adult shows or books. I miss the originality I remember from the DIC care bears where there were more stories actually involving kids problems. It's not a bad series but if you remember the version with coldheart this isn't it. Over all I would have bought a different product if I had known. My three year old daughter does not care for shreeky or beastly at all so it'll probably be off to the thirft store with this since I find them unpleasant too.

Also the lack of a proper menu screen is annoying. It will start in a play all mode unless you select otherwise quickly but it also...

I am so pleased that I can share one of my great loves as a child with my daughter. We alternate between Care Bears, She-Ra and Superman in our house. I only wish there were sweet things we had growing up still on today.
